About This Blog

“Essay” is such a pretentious word for what I do (but I use it anyway).

This is obviously just a menswear blog.  My menswear blog, to be exact. This is not a place for overt clothing recommendations or reviews, but rather…whatever I strikes my interest in menswear. It’s almost always pseudo-philosophical and faux cultural, with a bit of specifics in what I personally prefer to wear. It’s silly to think about clothes this much, but I do it anyway!

Over the years, I’ve developed fun and inquisitive approach to menswear, combining what I like best from vintage and contemporary-classic menswear.  That’s why I use this site to advocate things like spearpoint collars, high rise trousers, and wide lapels, all while maintaining that they are still able to be worn today along side pieces like bucket hats and knit caps.  There’s no real rhyme or reason to this other than as an outlet for my personal taste. Sometimes this involves looking at history (across a variety of eras). Or it might involve looking at contemporary dressers and trying to glean something relevant for my own style expression.

What you might see in this blog will challenge you.  Topics can range from wearing your tie carelessly to wearing white socks with everything.  And of course, some of my personal preferences show themselves n my writing, like my love affair with digital/film photography or how I like to paint. Hell, you’ll even see my adventures in Tokyo to profiles on friends I hang out with! So in essence, this menswear blog can end up being more than just about clothing.  It’s really about me, with words and photographs of my choosing.

I just happen to wear cool clothes.

Always a pleasure,

Ethan

Just found your site. Historical 30’s / Great Depression Era reenactor here. You really were able to square away deffirences between modern era and the 30’s but more importantly the need for expert tailoring. Many thanks for a phenom site.

    Greetings, Ethan!

I’m curious where the 1926 University of California image (man getting his trousers painted) came from. I did a reverse Google image search and came up fruitless. Thank you!
