While we can talk about our own outfits at the 2017 Spring Outing, it’s great to let other people have the spotlight. Even though most of the day was filed with disneybounding (or dapper bounding), there were a few individuals who really knocked it out of the park, pun intended!

We’ve talked about Field Jackets and leather jackets before, but there’s one king for lightweight casual wear and that’s the gabardine (gab) short jacket. Last time we talked about the tattersall waistcoat, a garment with a checked pattern that instantly screams vintage when it’s worn with a suit or separates. For those of you looking for a throwback ivy style, the tattersall is for you. However, we here at Street x Sprezza are always looking for ways to look even older. Nothing screams 1930’s than a two-tone, patch pocket vest; unfortunately, they’re extremely rare to find in perfect vintage condition. When we heard that Simon James Cathcart was about to reproduce one in a heavy flannel, we jumped on it right away.
I love grey trousers. They’re extremely versatile and go with everything, whether you’re going vintage casual or when you want to wear them with separates like a sweater vest or a patch pocket sportcoat. Now, navy trousers are the counterpart to grey as the pair of trousers everyone should own. Normally I recommend grey since its very plain/unsaturated, allowing you to ground an otherwise loud or colorful outfit. But when it comes to wearing navy trousers, I almost always pair it with brown; the harmony between these two earth tones is nothing short of amazing that really gives you an old school look. Brown and blue are my favorite colors and it’s what we wore this week on Street x Sprezza!
There a bunch of places that I look to for inspiration. If you haven’t noticed, most are taken from the social media profiles of my favorite tailors and haberdashers. This time we look at one of the oldest places men got their style inspiration from: fashion illustrations.
I know that we focus on tailoring a lot on this blog, but I think its time that we explore the seldom seen side of Golden Era Style: casual.
It’s our bi-annual tradition to go to Dapper Day at Disneyland. People go to the parks dressed in their best attire, whether its vintage, vintage inspired, modern, or anything in between! While the style varied a lot between the guests, our group went decidedly 1930s-1940s as we usually do, combining textures and patterns as expertly as possible. Here’s what we wore on that slightly mild November day!
It may look like pretty vintage/1930’s in the picture above, but other than the tie, it’s all modern! I thought that it would be appropriate to finally write a post on how to dress in 1930-40s’s style in today’s time, making it easy to understand and without you having to buy too much “true vintage”!

It’s not everyday that that you get an email inviting you to be a host of an event. Imagine my surprise when Justin Jorgensen, creator and mastermind behind Dapper Day at Disneyland, invited me to be one for their collaboration with the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The event revolved around two things: “Jazz at LACMA” (their weekly summer concert) and their latest exhibit, “Reigning Men: Fashion in Menswear, 1715-2015”. It was Dapper Day x LACMA.
Dapper Day is my version of Pitti Uomo; street style abounds! People are able to go around Disneyland and dress up in style, whether its vintage, vintage inspired, or modern! Since it is Spring, the guys and I decided to take our vintage style to the next level. Most people make the misconception that vintage clothes are all made of thick wools and are only available in muted, boring colors. However, the 1940’s were still stylin’ in hot weather! They had a variety of fabrics that were still breathable and and comfortable to wear and were especially light colored for spring and summer fashion! Our outfits for Spring Dapper Day give you real evidence that vintage suit style is still creative, fun, and colorful!
