Our Vintage Menswear Presentation and The SAD Podcast

DSCF1591

Anyone here want to get more Ethan and Spencer in your lives?   Well I’ve got two things you can check out: our Youtube video and the Style & Direction podcast.

A Guide To Vintage Menswear

So if you haven’t kept up with me on instagram or read our recent blog posts, I was asked by Dapper Day to make a presentation on Vintage Menswear.  The Dapper Day Expo (originally just a place for vendors and live music) has gotten bigger and bigger every year, and this time Justin decided to start a panel of seminars for the attendees.  You may remember that he tested this out before by asking me to make a video.

The other seminars were focused more on women (Tony Medina did hair, Besame Cosmetics was make-up, etc) so we were the only ones who did something on menswear! More specifically, Justin asked me to present on vintage menswear: how to find it, how to get it to fit, and how to style it.  To make sure that it wasn’t just Ethan rambling on, I got Spencer to join me.

You can see the full presentation on youtube here, which even includes some questions at the end!  It really was a fun experience (that Spencer and I worked really hard on btw) and I’m glad I was able to do it.  It may just be my opinion, but it’s probably one of the only resources for vintage/classic menswear on Youtube.

Another shoutout to Jon Hwang for hanging out with us and being our videographer/photographer for this day.  Unfortunately, he wasn’t able to get the clean, direct audio from the system, but I think his own mics did a great job.  Jon linked the audio to the video, and I edited the slides from the presentation into it.

Style & Direction Episode 2: Dapper Day IMG_4987

Apologies if I didn’t make a legit announcement, but we launched our podcast!  Before this latest one, we had our pilot/intro episode (which is very awkward) and the first actual episode where we discuss vintage.  In the newest one, we talk about Dapper Day and get into the slight-decline of the style there.  We even got Blake to join us!

Since I’m busy with work and articles (and Spencer has school), we have a bi-monthly schedule. This means that you can expect a new episode every two weeks!  For podcast content, we want to do three things: recaps/dissection of an event (like Dapper Day), discussion on a term in menswear/vintage, and interviews with some of the stylish people that we’ve met.

You can listen to the Dapper Day episode below or wherever you get your podcasts.  Please leave a review and subscribe, as it lets us get discovered by more listeners.  In addition, you can always leave a funny review where we can read it on the podcast or even ask us questions that you want answered.

There you go, two new types of content for you guys to consume!  This blog has come a long way since I started it in like 2015.  Who would’ve thought that there would be such a niche group of guys who enjoy me writing (and now talking) about clothes?

As always, feel free to follow me on instagram.  I’m very active on there and I message back pretty much anyone who DM’s me, so I’d love to get to know you! I’m also going to be in NYC for work on Nov 28/29-Dec 3.  I don’t know how much free time I’ll have but if you stop by Ascot Chang, I’ll be sure to say hi! Perhaps I’ll be able to finally shoot the guys at the Armoury and Drake’s.

Also, please join the Street x Sprezza Community on Facebook if you want.  There’s always great discussion going on along with daily outfit shots.  Drop in and say hi!

Big thank you to all of you who have given me support throughout this blog’s tenure.  I really wouldn’t have been able to do this much without you guys.

Always a pleasure,

Ethan W.

In the video Spencer recommended wearing cream striped pants as seperates, but would you ever recommend wearing a striped jacket as a seperate if it was in a casual color such as cream or brown? Or would it look strange since most striped jackets today are either pinstripe or chalkstripe?

Cream, blue (like regatta/boating) and brown are good and go great with light grey trousers! Chalk stripe is better than pinstripe, especially if the stripes are close together.

Thanks for the help! I found a brown chalkstripe 3/2 jacket on ebay and didn’t know whether it was worth copping or not since it was originally from a suit.

Haha it might be tricky but you can do it! Stick with cream and grey trousers.
