Experimentation: Layers and Caps

It’s been an odd spring here in Southern California. The weather has been going up and down; at the time of writing this article, the weather was at the low 70s! Might not be bad for you East Coast people, but it’s definitely weird for us!

Thanks to the cooler weather, Rajesh and I took this opportunity to experiment with both layers and ball caps. It’s not the newest of trends, but it’s definitely something new for both of us. How do you think we did?

A Very General Guide to Vintage Sartorial Style

The above image from a Russian catalog shows how cuts of suits changed from 1923-1943.  It’s these subtle details that show that not all vintage looks are the same.  Each decade had their own ideas on fit, proportion and styling.

Vintage isn’t a blanket term.  You don’t just put on suspenders and a flat cap and say “I’m vintage”.  Heck, not all vintage is the same. Just like there are differences in styles between the 2000s and 2010s, there are plenty of differences within each vintage decade.

Old School Cool with Vintage Sweaters

Sweaters have been around for a long time.  Today, guys mainly wear them two ways: as a replacement shirt (crew neck) or as a layering item for business casual (v-neck).   Don’t get me wrong, sweaters are great!  However, there is something about the styles and patterns of vintage sweaters that make them such an awesome piece for me.  They go great with more formal clothes, to give you that smart, “vintage” look!

Tweed is Perfect for Fall

There’s nothing more fall than tweed!  This past weekend, I was able to enjoy not only a dinner with my family but with my friends.  My outfit for the family party was casual, but I was able to break out the old tweed suit for a dinner party hosted by my pals, Spencer and Jay.  Us three got into the spirit of fall by wearing some dope tweed outfits!  We’ve got all three variations of tweed in here:  herringbone, fleck, and glen plaid! Who Wore It Better: The Tailored Khaki Trouser

Like we said before in our preppy post, khaki is one of the colors everyone should absolutely own in their wardrobe.  However, sometimes buying “off the rack” doesn’t help.  Everyone has a different body type, so what works for one may not work on the other.  So for this challenge, we both took a pair of khakis , tailored them and then put on a quick outfit to show you just how amazingly diverse and amazing khaki trousers are.  And as always, we’d like to know which style you liked better.
